Written, recorded & worked with
For more than five decades, H. Jack Williams has made his life with words, melodies, and stories.
His songs have been recorded by Gregg Allman, Richie Havens, the Oak Ridge Boys, Uriah Heep, Blackfoot, Little River Band, Montgomery Gentry, Son Seals and many others. His career has carried him from rock and roll history to Nashville, from life at sea to film and television, and into a lasting creative friendship with Kevin Costner, whose band Modern West has recorded several of Jack’s songs.
Jack’s spoken-word album Something About Hope brings together Kevin Costner, Ward Davis, Duane Allen, Dave Gibson, John Fusco, W. Earl Brown and other friends. In songs and stories about trauma, addiction, survival, faith, love and humor, he speaks with the honesty of a man who has lived every mile. Onstage, Jack does more than perform—he invites people into the life behind the songs. Don’t tell me I can’t.
“Jack is a rugged poet with a tender heart. He’s seen war and understands love.”
A new song from H. Jack Williams about the hardest person to outrun—and the fight to stop standing between yourself and the life you’re chasing.

06 In Their Words
“Jack is a rugged poet with a tender heart. He’s seen war and understands love. It’s a baseline as he communicates his feelings.”
Kevin Costner
“Jack Williams is a true legend and I’m proud to call him a good friend, too. He has a way with storytelling and making the listener feel like he wrote it just for them.”
Sarah Buxton
“He has a way of digging deeper than most in his song subjects and, at his best, is a great lyrical illustrator. Jack is dedicated and diligent.”
Ken Hensley · Uriah Heep
“These were strong Heep songs that fit very well into our classic rock catalog. Jack is tenacious with a very do-or-die positive nature that is infectious.”
Mick Box · Uriah Heep
“Jack is a great guy to have in the room. He has a knack for pinpointing a song’s essence and steering the write straight into where the heart of the song lives.”

Does where you begin have to determine where you end?
DON’T TELL ME I CAN’T is about music, addiction, survival, self-sabotage and reinvention—and the stubborn belief that where you begin does not have to determine where you end.
Jack’s completed memoir follows a life that began in violence and nearly ended more than once, then somehow carried him into rooms with some of the most recognizable names in music. It is not just the story of the career he built. It is the story of surviving long enough to build one at all.
